If you enjoy singing in the shower or singing along to your favourite songs on the radio, the come and join our chorus. Everyone is welcome as long as you are over the age of 18. Our group is made up of ladies of all ages and from all walks of life and what unites us is our love of singing and friendship.

If you:
  • love to sing and are able to sing a tune
  • are looking for a new and sociable hobby in a friendly, fun group
  • can commit to weekly rehearsal on a Monday evening and to learn and practise your songs at home
We would love to hear from you!

What we can offer in return:
  • Friendship and fun
  • Teach tracks and sheet music to help you learn our repertoire (it's not a problem if you can't read music)
  • Support to help you do this from your Section Leader, MD and chorus members
  • The opportunity to improve your vocal technique, through regular rehearsals and from visiting coaches
  • The uplifting experience of singing in harmony
Although we are serious about working hard to improve, chorus rehearsals are also about fun and friendship, so why not come along and join us and we are sure you will soon agree. The taster session and following week are free, so why not give it a go!

How to become a member of the chorus

Taster session:

  • When you come along for your first visit you will be invited to join the physical and vocal warm-ups. You may want to watch the rest of the rehearsal or join in if you would like; there is no pressure.

  • During the evening the MD or assistant may ask you to sing a simple melody (Happy Birthday is definitely the most popular) as well as some scales up and down. This will be done in a quiet area, away from the chorus. This is to assess your vocal range so that we can place you with the appropriate section: Lead, Tenor, Bari or Bass.

Week 1:

  • We will ask you to sit with your section and using chorus music, join in where you can. At the end of the session you will be given a copy of the short audition song and we shall send you the teach track so that you can practise at home.

Week 2 onwards:

  • We expect that within four weeks you will have memorised your part and be happy to sing our audition song with other members of the chorus. We will sing it every week before then so you will have a chance to practise.

If you would like to come along, please contact us first via Rivercitychorus@gmail.com. We can look out for you and make sure we have spare music ready. We rehearse on Monday evenings 7:30 - 9:45 pm and we recommend coming from about 7:15 to say hello to people. The first two weeks are free!

We rehearse in a lovely new primary school which gives great acoustics. As it's a new building, the sat navs do not always give the correct instructions. If you put Fish Street Exeter into your Sat Nav, that gets you within 100 yards of the building. You turn off Topsham Road onto Dart Avenue and the road winds through a modern housing estate before crossing a large grassy area. Fish Street is first on you left.
